About Scholarships
Scholarships are gift aid and do not have to be repaid. Scholarships are awarded based on different factors including merit, financial need, and talent. They are awarded by institutions, governments, private individuals, foundations, community organizations, etc.
Most scholarships awarded by Colorado State University require recipients to be U.S. Citizens or permanent residents.
Two tips to finding scholarships are:
1. Apply to as many sources as possible, and
2. Apply each year of attendance.
Most scholarship deadlines are between December and April.
To apply for scholarships offered by Student Financial Services and your academic college, complete the CSU Scholarship Application (CSUSA), available online beginning December 1. The deadline is March 1 at 11 p.m. (MST). Go to RAMweb at ramweb.colostate.edu and login using your eID. Then select the CSU Scholarship Application link. Be sure to complete your academic college and the Student Financial Services sections of the CSUSA.

If you are a private donor, or a student, and need information regarding sending a scholarship check, see Sending a Scholarship Check to SFS.
If you have received a scholarship check, and it is payable to you and CSU, endorse it before sending it to us. If we receive a scholarship check for you, we will process it and notify you by letter or e-mail. If the check requires your endorsement, the notice will advise you where to come to endorse it. Some donors require verification of enrollment. You may send your scholarship donor a printout of your class schedule or the Scholarship Enrollment Verification Letter, both available on RAMweb. Or, you may Contact us and we will verify your enrollment and request the check from the scholarship donor.
Scholarships are credited to your University student account, provided you are enrolled in sufficient credits, and scholarship money automatically pays any existing charges on your University student account. If all charges are paid, the remaining amount will be refunded to you to be used for other educational expenses.
Receiving a scholarship may cause a reduction in other financial aid. If possible, loans will be reduced. However, it is sometimes necessary to reduce work-study, grants (with the exception of the Federal Pell Grant), and/or scholarships. This policy is in accordance with federal regulation and institutional policy.
If a student drops all classes after the semester begins, the scholarship(s) may be adjusted.
Receiving a scholarship is an honor as well as a means to help meet educational costs. When seeking a scholarship, it is important to apply early, apply each year, and be resourceful. We hope the information in these Web pages is helpful. If questions remain, Contact us.
