Using Financial Aid to Study Abroad
College Opportunity Fund (COF)
Colorado State University study abroad and exchange programs are NOT eligible for College Opportunity Funds (COF). This includes short-term study abroad programs offered through the Division of Continuing Education. The credit earned through study abroad is not counted towards the 145 lifetime hours limit on COF eligibility.
Governors Opportunity Scholarship (GOS)
If you enroll in a University-approved Study Abroad program, you may utilize your Governor's Opportunity Scholarship (GOS) award and, if a dependent student, your parent may apply for a parent loan (PLUS) for your additional educational expenses. However, you may not take out student loans for a University-approved Study Abroad program and receive GOS at the same time. If more aid is needed than GOS can provide, you may choose to take out student loans instead of receiving GOS.
